Domain Validation SSL Certificates
Domain Validation (DV) SSL Certificates are very easy to obtain and are issued within a few minutes. The holder of the domain only has to click a link in a “validation e-mail” (also called Domain-Control-Validation DCV-mail). This validation-mail is exclusively sent to one of the following technical e-mail addresses: admin@, administrator@, webmaster@, hostmaster@ or postmaster@yourdomain.com. Some providers also offer alternative validation methods, for example uploading a hash value in the webserver’s root.
Domain Validation SSL Certificates only certify that the connection to a website is encrypted and secure. The identity of the website owner, however, is neither verified nor displayed in the certificate.
Purposes
A DV SSL certificate is used for websites and servers that just need a secure connection (https). Common applications for this type of certificate are webmail, owa, intranet, extranet or citrix secure gateway.
